Upgrades to the Cherbourg Community Hall meant this year’s Golden Oldies shifted up the hill to a new venue for last Saturday’s celebration.<\/p>\n

However, the hall in the Les Stewart Snr Sports Complex proved to be the perfect venue, especially on a hot day.<\/p>\n

With the sides of the building open, a breeze flowed through, and there was plenty of room for the elegantly decorated tables.<\/p>\n

The annual reunion of “over 60s” attracts former Cherbourg residents back to town from across Queensland (and this year, NSW).<\/p>\n

Younger Cherbourg residents were making sure their Elders were being well-fed and looked after.<\/p>\n

Other highlights included line-dancing by Cherbourg State School children, a performance by the Wakka Wakka Dancers, sing-alongs and even some dancing.<\/p>\n

Golden Oldies is always an opportunity for lots of catch-ups and laughter, but there is also sadness as Elders who have died during the past 12 months are remembered.<\/p>\n

A Golden Oldie stalwart from past years was a noticeable absence this year; Nan Eva Collins died at age 102 in September.<\/p>\n
