More than 80 guests gathered at Hillview Cottages near Kingaroy recently for a sophisticated fundraising event to support the Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation.<\/p>\n

The Long Lunch at Hillview on October 19 had aimed to raise $4000 to provide life-changing surgery for women in Ethiopia but ended up raising more than this.<\/p>\n

A rustic barn was transformed into an elegant spring garden party, with long tables adorned with locally grown\u00a0 flowers and fairy lights – and the guests also dressed to impress!<\/p>\n

The four-course dining experience was accompanied by music from local duo Tucker & Chop.<\/p>\n

Prosecco and gin spritzers kept the guests refreshed all afternoon.<\/p>\n

The Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation provides free medical care to Ethiopian women suffering from obstetric fistula – a devastating childbirth injury resulting in incontinence and often leading to social isolation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With about half of all births in Ethiopia occurring without medical care, thousands of women experience this preventable injury each year.<\/p>\n

The Long Lunch was co-organised by Jenny Gemmell, who will travel to Ethiopia in March next year on a self-funded trip to witness the foundation’s work firsthand.<\/p>\n

Guests enthusiastically participated in raffles featuring donated items from local artists and businesses, including original artwork, photographs, art-inspired items, gourmet hampers and accommodation at Hillview Cottages.<\/p>\n

The standout fundraiser on the day was the silent auction of the striking native flower arrangements that decorated each table.<\/p>\n

All profits made through the event and any donations will go directly towards the foundation.<\/p>\n
