The Kingaroy Rotary Club is celebrating being named “Club of the Year” for District 9600 for the second time in recent years.<\/p>\n

It’s a feather in the cap for local club members as the District covers all Brisbane clubs north of the Brisbane River as well as the Sunshine Coast, Nauru, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.<\/p>\n

President-elect Damien Tessmann, who will be taking over the reins at the club’s changeover dinner on June 24, and current president Neil Black explained that the club had handed out nearly $47,000 over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n

This included $18,000 in assistance to flood-affected farmers in the Murgon area, $15,000 for renovations to the South Burnett Private Hospital building, support to the South Burnett Young Leaders group for training, and $5000 to Rotary’s international Polio Plus program.<\/p>\n

The club is particularly proud that it was able to turn $4000 of fund-raising into $34,000 worth of medical equipment for the Philippines by accessing grants and other programs.<\/p>\n

Money is raised from the regular Saturday morning barbecues in the Harvey Norman car park in Kingaroy as well as the sale of calendars, jewellery auctions and other events.<\/p>\n

Mr Tessmann said the Kingaroy Rotary Club had 30 members who were very passionate about the club and what it does.<\/p>\n
