South Burnett residents who have difficulty getting into or out of Council’s swimming pools, have a new independent option, thanks to Heritage Nanango Community Funding (HNCF).<\/p>\n

Heritage has donated more than $115,000 to have a special Poolpod installed at the South Burnett Aquatic Centre in Nanango.<\/p>\n

The latest model Contenda Poolpod, powered by rechargeable batteries, was imported from Scotland and is believed to be the first of the company’s 3.0 models in Australia.<\/p>\n

It was fitted to the side of the 25m indoor pool on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Poolpod provides a safe, self-operated way to enter and exit the water for anyone who finds the steps into the pool difficult to negotiate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They can either sit or stand in the Poolpod as it is gently glides out and down into the pool.\u00a0 They can then basically float off ..<\/p>\n

Getting back on to dry land is as simple as reversing the procedure.<\/p>\n

There are two seats built into the Poolpod so two people can enter the pool at the same time, eg. a carer with their client.<\/p>\n

The Poolpod has a 250kg weight limit.<\/p>\n

HNCF also provided the funding to buy a special multi-adjustable wheelchair for the Poolpod which suits both adults and children.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Because of this partnership, Heritage have been able to stand behind so many projects that have strengthened clubs and organisations throughout the Nanango area,” Cr Jane Erkens said.<\/p>\n

Contenda Poolpods were developed in the UK after a call went out from the Olympic Delivery Authority for a new type of pool hoist for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.<\/p>\n
