The South Burnett’s annual fundraising campaign to support the McGrath Foundation was officially launched on Wednesday morning with a generous $5000 donation.<\/p>\n

This is the third year that Kingaroy residents Barry and Leanne Krosch have dug deep to support “Pink Up The South Burnett”.<\/p>\n

McGrath nurse Sue Cox said the McGrath Foundation nurses had now expanded their care and support to all types of cancer … which was the reason why she was wearing purple at the launch, not pink!<\/p>\n

“Pink Up The South Burnett” is an annual campaign co-ordinated by Sue, Cr Danita Potter and Mayor Kathy Duff.<\/p>\n

It encourages groups across the region to hold “Pink Up” fundraising events.<\/p>\n

Several groups have already come on board, including the South Burnett Speedway Club which is “Pinking Up” for its October 11 season opener.<\/p>\n

However, there is also a very special event planned at the end of the month … a charity auction which will be held at Ringsfield House in Nanango on October 31.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The auction will feature a stunning mosaic, “Reflections”, made by Nanango artist Karen Hibble-Shephard.<\/p>\n

Karen is a three-times cancer survivor who has found a new life in making mosaics.<\/p>\n

“Reflections” is a female torso filled with positive symbolism.<\/p>\n

It took Karen six months to create and the glass alone cost more than $1000.<\/p>\n

“I survived (my cancer treatments) because of the people who helped me,” Karen said.<\/p>\n

“I just want to be giving something back.”<\/p>\n

The “Pink Up The South Burnett” team is hoping to double their fundraising this year in a bid to get a second McGrath nurse assigned to the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

All funds raised in the South Burnett are spent locally.<\/p>\n

Footnote: Karen is now planning to create a “Movember” man for men’s health.<\/em><\/p>\n
