Former North Burnett Mayor Rachel Chambers has been appointed the new Queensland Food Farmers\u2019 Commissioner by the State Government.<\/p>\n

She will begin her three-year term on October 27.<\/p>\n

The role aims to ensure Queensland farmers are “supported and empowered” to thrive in a competitive market, promote consumer confidence and ensure the agricultural sector can thrive.<\/p>\n

Ms Chambers, who is currently CEO of Queensland Fruit and Vegetable Growers, will also represent Queensland’s interests to the Federal Government as part of the National Food Security Strategy, supporting the priority areas identified in the State Government’s “Primary Producers Prosper 2050” 25-year blueprint.<\/p>\n

Primary Industries Minister Tony Perrett said Ms Chambers has demonstrated her ability to advocate for outcomes for primary producers and brought extensive rural leadership experience in the horticultural industry and local government.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMs Chambers played a prominent role for changes in supply chain pricing during the Queensland supermarket inquiry and advocated for growers during the national supermarket inquiry conducted by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission during 2024-25,\u201d Minister Perrett said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am confident she will provide strong leadership, connection, and advocacy across industry, to government and for Queensland primary producers and it is my view that there is no one better for the job.<\/p>\n
