Local Government Minister Ann Leahy visited Cherbourg last Friday with Member for Nanango and Attorney-General Deb Frecklington to discuss strategic priorities for the community.<\/p>\n

The Ministers met with Cherbourg councillors as well as touring the community.<\/p>\n

Topics discussed included juvenile crime, and the State Government’s focus on sentencing guidelines, providing schooling in youth detention and support for 12 months after children are released from detention.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said she believed the “adult crime, adult time” laws were working.<\/p>\n

Other topics covered included health issues in Cherbourg and access to after-hours medical care.<\/p>\n

Council also pressed the Ministers on funding opportunities for the community’s proposed new youth leadership and civic centre.<\/p>\n

The two Ministers also visited The Ration Shed historical precinct, the YAG Shop and inspected one of the new houses in Cherbourg, part of a large housing project being undertaken by Cherbourg Council.<\/p>\n
