Fire crews were kept busy on Saturday with large fires whipped up by the windy conditions burning near the Burnett Highway at Tansey and the Brisbane Valley Highway at Lake Wivenhoe.<\/p>\n

At 1:30pm on Saturday, there were 10 fire crews in action at a bushfire near Barsby’s Road at Tansey, between the Burnett Highway and Kilkivan-Tansey Road.<\/p>\n

QFD issued an alert to local residents to “Stay Informed”.<\/p>\n

A waterbomber was also called in to assist firefighters on the ground.<\/p>\n

Fire crews left the incident about 3:30pm.<\/p>\n

At Lake Wivenhoe, police declared an emergency on Saturday afternoon with an exclusion zone including a stretch of the Brisbane Valley Highway from Coominya Connection Road to the Lake Wivenhoe Dam access road.<\/strong><\/p>\n

About 1:40pm, fire crews were called to the large fire burning between the highway, Logan Inlet Road and Fig Tree Road.<\/p>\n

Police helped to evacuate residents and campers and motorists were urged to avoid the area.<\/p>\n

At 6:40pm, QFD warned residents who had left the area that it was still not safe to return.<\/p>\n

The emergency declaration was lifted on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

At 11:30am on Monday, the fire was still burning but the alert level had been reduced to “Advice” with smoke still affecting Lake Wivenhoe and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

A QFD spokesperson said more than 110 vegetation fires were reported across Queensland on Saturday but most were under control by Sunday morning.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A man aged in his 60s was taken by ambulance to Kingaroy Hospital after two vehicles collided on Pamela Drive at Taromeo on Sunday night.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A QAS spokesperson said the man had head and neck pain and\u00a0 was transported in a stable condition.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Stanwell has alerted local residents that mining operations at the Meandu Mine will be moving soon into a new area to the north-east of the current open-cut area.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When blasting occurs in the new area, short-term traffic control measures will be in place on Nanango-Neumgna Road and the Tarong Power Station Road to ensure community safety.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson said traffic disruptions would be kept to a minimum, however delays of up to an hour could occur during blasting periods.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
