South Burnett Regional Council hosted a meeting of representatives from a range of local associations on Wednesday to discuss the development of a Small Business Action Plan for the region.<\/p>\n

This follows the renewal earlier this year of the SBRC’s commitment to the State Government’s Small Business Friendly Charter.<\/p>\n

The charter, developed by the Queensland Small Business Commissioner, encourages councils to keep small business issues and priorities in mind when making decisions for the local community.<\/p>\n

The SBRC and seven South Burnett small business and community groups originally signed up to the initiative in 2021.<\/p>\n

Wednesday’s meeting included representatives from local tourism organisation Visit South Burnett (VSB), the Murgon Business and Development Association (MBDA), the Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Nanango Tourism and Development Association (NaTDA), Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation (BIEDO), the Wondai Business and Development Association (WBDA) and the Nanango Business Alliance (NBA) as well as local media.<\/p>\n

The get-together enabled the various groups to brief the others on their activities as well as provide feedback on the draft Action Plan developed by the SBRC.<\/p>\n

The plan aims to identify the diverse issues hampering business expansion in the region – including housing availability, water constraints, transport issues, skills shortages and cyber security – and possible ways how some of these could be addressed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It will also form the basis of a document that the business associations could use during their lobbying efforts with governments.<\/p>\n

The various groups will meet again in six months to discuss progress.<\/p>\n
