School zone flashing lights will be installed in Kingaroy Street to improve safety around Taabinga State School<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A set of flashing school-zone lights will be erected in Kingaroy Street to make school drop-offs safer for Taabinga State School students.<\/p>\n

The location was one of 100 identified as high-risk zones by the State Government.<\/p>\n

Almost $7 million has been allocated this financial year to install and maintain the signs.<\/p>\n

Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said driver awareness in school zones was paramount to saving lives.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cEvery child deserves to feel safe on their way to and from school. These flashing signs are a simple but powerful reminder to drivers to slow down and stay alert,\u201d Minister Langbroek said.<\/p>\n

Last year, 12,384 infringement notices were issued across Queensland for motorists speeding in 40km\/h school zones.<\/p>\n

And more than 63 school-aged children were injured as a result of a crashes in school zones, with about 30 requiring hospital treatment.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said motorists\u2019 behaviour around schools was a common concern for parents and staff.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is about more than signs \u2013 it is about listening to our community and acting on their concerns,” she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFlashing school zone signs actively remind motorists when and where to slow down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Flashing warning lights on the Walter Road (D’Aguilar Highway) side of Taabinga State School were installed in 2014.<\/p>\n
