Minor premiers Cherbourg Hornets have locked in the first spot in the South Burnett Rugby League’s 2025 A Grade Grand Final after a strong display over Kingaroy in the Major Semi-Final played at Blackbutt last Saturday.<\/p>\n

In contrast, the Murgon Mustangs look to be trying to repeat their tough 2024\u00a0journey after eliminating the Wondai Wolves in a high-scoring Minor Semi-Final.<\/p>\n

Murgon finished fourth on the competition ladder last year but fought their way through the Minor Semi-Final and Preliminary Final to earn a Grand Final spot.<\/p>\n

They then clinched victory in the last few minutes of the trophy game.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs finished in fourth spot again this year.\u00a0Their first task was disposing of the Wolves last weekend, which they did 48-36.<\/p>\n

Wondai put the first points on the board. After just four minutes, the Wolves were ahead 12-0 and then 16-12 but Murgon then changed gears, dominating in an attacking game which featured several successful 40\/20 kicks.<\/p>\n

They even managed to score while having a player in the sin bin.<\/p>\n

A final 10-minute fightback was spearheaded by Wondai’s Jeremy Hobbs but the Mustangs held on for the win.<\/p>\n

A successful penalty kick by Jayden Tewes-Smallwood after the full-time siren put the icing on the cake for Murgon.<\/p>\n

This Saturday, Murgon will be taking on second placegetters Kingaroy in the Preliminary Final to be played at Cherbourg’s Jack O’Chin Oval.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is the last chance for Kingaroy, who lost to Cherbourg 40-16.<\/p>\n

The Red Ants held their own in the first half, behind just 16-8 at half-time after being held up twice over the line and not managing to lock in any extra points.<\/p>\n

However, Cherbourg stamped their authority after the break.<\/p>\n

The second spot in the August 30 Grand Final will be secured by the winner of the Murgon v Kingaroy game on Saturday.<\/p>\n

    Murgon tries were scored by Joel Fewquandie (2), Sonny Weazel (2), Jahrlin Dalton, Tito Bligh, Jayden Tewes-Smallwood, Tre Stanley and Josiah Alberts.\u00a0 Tewes-Smallwood kicked five conversions and one penalty goal.<\/p>\n

    Wondai try scorers were Jeremy Hobbs (3), Thomas McDowell, Torren Anderton, Damien Alphonse and Luke Hedges. Anderton kicked four conversions.<\/p>\n

      Cherbourg tries were scored by Fred Cobbo (2), George Fisher, Cody Simmons, Jonathan Walsh, Rahcine Doyle and Barry Tapau-Fewquandie. George Fisher kicked six conversions.<\/p>\n

      Kingaroy try scorers were Mitch Bailey, Killian Klease, Chris Bond and Tiai Tuiloma.<\/p>\n

      Under 14s Semi-Finals<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

      In the Under 14s Minor Semi-Final, Murgon defeated Kingaroy 22-14 after leading 16-14 at half-time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      The loss ended the 2025 season for the Red Ants who finished in fourth place on the ladder at the end of the regular season.<\/p>\n

      Murgon tries were scored by Lakiri Renouf, Sam Davis, Zavier Frahm and Daijon Harrison. Harrison kicked two conversions\u00a0 and Tre’Maine Henry-Chapman kicked one.<\/p>\n

      Kingaroy try scorers were Jamychal Smallwood, Locklan Gale and Hudson Murphy. Mason Fuller-Sandys kicked one penalty goal.<\/p>\n

      In the Under 14s Major Semi-Final Chinchilla defeated minor premiers Nanango 8-0.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Chinchilla try scorers were Riley Kerr and James Thomson.<\/p>\n

      Chinchilla have booked the first spot in the Under 14s Grand Final on August 30.<\/p>\n

      Nanango will now play Murgon on Saturday at Cherbourg in the Preliminary Final to determine the second Grand Final berth.<\/p>\n
