August 28, 2025<\/b><\/p>\n

This past year has been a busy time at the Bunya Mountains Natural History Association and its Cedarvale and Hillview Museums.<\/p>\n

The association is a community organisation that explores and promotes the natural and social history of the Bunya Mountains.<\/p>\n

During the year contractors and members carried out various repairs and repainting, thanks to a grant from the Heritage Bank Nanango Community Fund.<\/p>\n

A new roof was also built, something the group could never have financed by itself.\u00a0 This will help to preserve this old building into the future.<\/p>\n

Many people visit Cedarvale when it is open on market day (the last Sunday of every month).<\/p>\n

As in past years, Easter was the busiest time with 450 people visiting Cedarvale. This was despite the closure of Dandabah Park during this period.<\/p>\n

Another feature of the 2024-25 year was the request to open Cedarvale for group visits.<\/p>\n

Various schools have visited, including staff from St John’s Lutheran School, who were on retreat, and Coolabunia State School students.<\/p>\n

One hundred Toowoomba TAFE students also visited. This activity was the culmination of a unit of work that featured the Bunya Mountains.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many of the students were teenage refugees who had never visited the Bunyas before.<\/p>\n

Other groups visiting Cedarvale included a Probus Group from Ashgrove and the Big Skies Group from Western Downs.<\/p>\n

Two members also lead regular bird walks, an activity which is growing in popularity.<\/p>\n

Other members have opened Cedarvale when the Bunya Mountains Community Association events are held nearby.<\/p>\n

Members also visited the Kumbia Museum during the year and were impressed by their extensive collection of photos and memorabilia of the Bunya Mountains and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

The association is also looking forward to being neighbours to the revamped Dandabah Park and Picnic Area when the upgrade is completed later this year.<\/p>\n

Footnote:\u00a0 A free concert, Music On Nature’s Porch, is being held this Saturday (August 30)\u00a0 at the Burton’s Well picnic area on the Bunya Mountains from 10:00am to around 3:00pm. <\/strong><\/p>\n

There’ll be music by the Nanango Shedders, Polly’s Uke Group and St Mary’s Junior Ukesters plus bush poetry and Scottish pipes. Other musicians are very welcome to join in (or just sing along)! A sausage sizzle, coffee van and drinks stall will be operating on site and there’s no admission. Everyone is welcome!<\/p>\n
