Toowoomba Hospital was forced to reschedule eight non-urgent elective surgeries on Tuesday and Wednesday this week due to the number of respiratory cases Darling Downs Health is currently dealing with.<\/p>\n

Queensland Health data shows that hospitalisations for influenza continued to rise during the the past week with the expected peak yet to be reached.<\/p>\n

On July 20, Darling Downs Health was treating 26 patients in hospital with COVID-19 (the second highest number in the State),\u00a0 20 patients with influenza and seven with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).<\/p>\n

A Queensland Health spokesperson said 3650 flu cases were recorded last week in Queensland, the highest number so far this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since the start of the year, 3915 people have been hospitalised with flu; of these 88 per cent were not vaccinated.<\/p>\n

A total of 1195 COVID-19 cases were reported last week in Queensland, taking the total for the year to 25,070.<\/p>\n

Since the start of the year, 5050 people have been hospitalised with COVID-19; of these 92 per cent were not up-to-date with their vaccinations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
