An important preliminary step in the proposed Borumba Pumped Hydro Project has been completed with the opening of a temporary camp for workers.<\/p>\n

The “Walkers Top Rapid Deployment Camp” will accommodate about 30 Queensland Hydro staff and contractors involved in early construction work on the site, including preparations for a\u00a0 larger temporary camp which will house the workers involved in the exploratory works phase of the project.<\/p>\n

Queensland Hydro executive general manager Geoff Scott said the camp was a tangible step forward and delivered on commitments to minimise potential impacts on the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor remote projects, it is very important to be able to accommodate your workers near where they work,” Mr Scott said.<\/p>\n

“Queensland Hydro has talked with and engaged with the community to ensure we understand local perspectives.<\/p>\n

“We have considered these in our planning and we are actively seeking to reduce impacts on local housing and tourism accommodation and to reduce individual vehicle movements to our site where we can.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Rapid Deployment Camp has been built to meet the immediate needs of our workforce, including the group who are commencing the construction of a larger temporary workers\u2019 camp which over time will be able to house up to 336 workers.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The larger camp will contain a wellness room, gym, running track, social room and laundry facilities.<\/p>\n

Queensland Hydro is continuing to seek regulatory approvals for the exploratory works phase of the project which will include further investigations and development of the proposed site.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
