An unusual fundraiser – with a special dual purpose – was held at the Wondai Bowls Club last Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Alwyn Litzow Bowls Day was organised by Alwyn and his family members to raise funds for the South Burnett Eagles’ junior rugby league teams.<\/p>\n

But Alwyn also had an “ulterior motive” … to show the young people involved that lawn bowls can be a lot of fun and isn’t just a sport for retired folk.<\/p>\n

Alwyn’s daughter, rugby league volunteer Renita Olsen, said her father had always wanted to hold a junior sports day at the Wondai Country Club to encourage young people to play bowls.<\/p>\n

“At the same time, he could raise funds for junior sport,” Renita said.<\/p>\n

Eagles’ players, their friends and family members shared a barbecue lunch as well as having fun on the greens.<\/p>\n
