Redcliffe-based NRL club, the Dolphins, has snapped up Queensland Origin and Test player Selwyn Cobbo.<\/p>\n

A media statement released on Friday morning by the club confirmed the 23-year-old had signed a one-year deal and would join the Dolphins when pre-season training begins in November.<\/p>\n

The former Cherbourg Hornet was dropped to Reserve Grade by the Broncos three weeks ago and is this week listed as a Reserve for Brisbane’s clash against the New Zealand Warriors.<\/p>\n

Brisbane media has been speculating for weeks about Cobbo’s future with the Broncos, which has been juggling salary-cap restraints.<\/p>\n

The Dolphins’ statement said Cobbo would add more firepower to the club’s backline.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The deal also means Cobbo can stay in close contact to family and friends at Cherbourg, which would have been more difficult if he had moved to the Perth Bears, which had been rumoured to be interested in signing him ahead of the club’s NRL debut in 2027.<\/p>\n

Dolphins\u2019 CEO Terry Reader said Cobbo was an accomplished player who had done some amazing things at both Origin and NRL level.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we believe he has untapped potential to go to even greater heights in our game and are excited about what he can do in a Dolphins jersey,\u201d Reader said.<\/p>\n

Cobbo has already played six Origin games for Queensland as well as 80 NRL matches for the Broncos.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He made his Test debut for Australia against Samoa in 2023 and has also represented the Prime Minister\u2019s XIII against Papua New Guinea.<\/p>\n

Cobbo has also been selected twice for the Indigenous All Stars team.<\/p>\n
