Ergon and Energex have launched a statewide recruitment drive for electrical apprentices to start their training in February next year.<\/p>\n

Aspiring apprentices can apply from now until Sunday, June 29, on the Ergon<\/a> or Energex<\/a> websites.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There will be roles available – in five different trades – at 58 depots and centres across Queensland.<\/p>\n

Applicants must be 17 or older by February 1, 2026, but there is no upper age limit.<\/p>\n

An Energy Queensland spokesperson said these apprenticeships were highly regarded and always attracted a lot of community interest, especially from school leavers.<\/p>\n

The apprentices work a nine-day fortnight, with excellent pay and conditions and receive world-class training.<\/p>\n

Applicants do NOT need to have completed Year 12<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you are looking for a rewarding career in the electricity industry, an Ergon apprenticeship is an amazing launch pad,” Apprentice Program Development co-ordinator Dan McGaw said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYou can earn good money with great conditions and finish with trade qualifications that set you up for the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou will get everything you need to do your role \u2013 we never compromise on tools, equipment or safety and Ergon is an industry leader when it comes to its apprentice training programs and pastoral care.<\/p>\n

\u201cElectricity is the lifeblood of any community and Ergon apprentices make a valuable contribution even before they have finished their trade.<\/p>\n

\u201cApprentices who have pitched in to help restore power after cyclones and floods will tell you disaster response is probably the most rewarding thing they have done, as well as the best learning experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ergon Energy Network and Energex hired 184 apprentices at the 2025 intake, aged between 17 and 54.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Six were ex-Defence Force personnel via a\u00a0 pathway partnership with RSL Queensland; 60 per cent of the intake were male and 40 per cent female, and 11 per cent identified as First Nations.<\/p>\n
