South Burnett Regional Council has confirmed it will take over management of the former RSPCA shelter, near Kingaroy Airport, on July 1.<\/p>\n

Councillors voted at Wednesday’s meeting to accept the surrender of the lease from the RSPCA and add the capital improvements made at the site by the RSPCA to its building registry.<\/p>\n

The new Council-run facility will be known as the “South Burnett Animal Management Centre”.<\/p>\n

Funding to operate the centre will be included in Council’s 2025-26 Budget deliberations.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kathy Duff said she wanted to assure the community that Council has experienced staff who would be able to ensure a smooth transition to the new model.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Council pound will still be operated on the site as well as\u00a0 the “rehoming of unclaimed suitable behaved animals and adoption of unclaimed suitable behaved animals”.<\/p>\n

“Council will be looking at all avenues of operation to ensure that we get the best possible outcomes for the animals including talking to other service providers and organisations who work with animals,” Mayor Duff said.<\/p>\n

“Our Council will consider the capital improvements required at the South Burnett Animal Management Centre including making the dangerous dog enclosures safe and functional.”<\/p>\n
