Blackbutt lived up to its “timber town” reputation on Saturday with a strong focus on woodchopping events at the annual Blackbutt Show.<\/p>\n

Not only was there top-level competitions – including several Queensland titles – for the spectators to enjoy in the woodchopping arena, a retired star of the sport officially opened the show.<\/p>\n

Kerry Head, who has represented both Queensland and Australia on many occasions, officially opened the 91st Blackbutt Show.<\/p>\n

Kerry was inducted into the Australian Axemen’s Association Hall Of Fame at last year’s Brisbane Ekka.<\/p>\n

During his long career, he won the Queensland Champion of Champions 11 times and the Australian Champion of Champions twice.<\/p>\n

During the late 1990s, he also held the world records for 375mm Single Underhand and 300mm Underhand.<\/p>\n

Kerry told the large crowd that the Blackbutt Show was his favourite of all the agricultural shows.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of competing in many hundreds of ag shows across Australia, New Zealand and the USA,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I’d like to congratulate the Blackbutt Show Society for putting together another great event this year.”<\/p>\n

Kerry also thanked the show committee members and other volunteers for all their hard work, and the sponsors for making the show possible.<\/p>\n

The other guest speakers at the opening, including Member for Nanango Attorney-General Deb Frecklington and South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff, also praised the woodchopping action.<\/p>\n

However, there was a lot more also happening at this year’s show …<\/p>\n

There was a well-supported dog show, cattle competitions, poultry, a large sideshow alley, a stunt show, circus, fireworks and local band Mr Q played until late.<\/p>\n
