A community event was held in Murgon last Friday (May 16) to mark the official completion of several Council projects in Lamb Street and Queen Elizabeth II Park.<\/p>\n

The projects were funded by the State Government’s 2021-24 Works For Queensland (W4Q) program, and were part of $5.63 million allocated to the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

The Murgon works, worth $292,383, included five new tables and chairs in QEII park, solar lighting and CCTV in the park, a PA system, new paths and the refurbishment and repainting of the rotunda.<\/p>\n

The completion of these projects was officially unveiled by Member for Nanango, Attorney-General Deb Frecklington and South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Also celebrated at the event was the unveiling of three plinths which explain the significance of artwork plaques which have been embedded in the Lamb Street footpath.<\/p>\n

Two of the plaques were designed by well-known Cherbourg artist, Aunty Venus Rabbitt, who unveiled the plinths and explained their significance.<\/p>\n

They depict an owl and a carpet snake which embody significant meanings to Wakka Wakka people.<\/p>\n

The third symbol depicts the South Burnett Regional Council logo.<\/p>\n

The community event also included a free barbecue.<\/p>\n
