A $70 million planned maintenance overhaul has begun at Stanwell’s Tarong North power station.<\/p>\n

A Stanwell spokesperson said the project would inject about $10 million into the local economy via local suppliers of accommodation, transport and hospitality.<\/p>\n

The overhaul is expected to run until early July and would create 500 short-term specialised contractor roles on site.<\/p>\n

Stanwell General Manager Southern Generation Mick Joy said planned unit overhauls were a critical part of Stanwell\u2019s year-round maintenance program.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s crucial we undertake a thorough maintenance schedule. Each unit undergoes a major overhaul every four years to keep them running optimally year-round,” Mr Joy said.<\/p>\n

Sarah O\u2019Mahoney, from G3 Engineering at Nanango, said the Tarong power stations had provided a consistent workflow for the company.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cTo support the overhaul, we increase our supply for fabricated and manufactured components, as well as provide an increase in labour backfill,\u201d Mrs O\u2019Mahoney said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIncreasing the services we provide means we are able to grow our business, by hiring new talent and upskilling our team.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been operating for 15 years, and in that time, we\u2019ve grown from a small crew of onsite maintenance personnel to a small business that provides a range of engineering services to our region, such as design, drafting, 3D scanning, manufacturing and installation to name a few.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stanwell recently updated representatives from the South Burnett and Cherbourg councils, plus invited community and business leaders, on their latest activities at a dinner hosted by the corporation at Whipbird Chapel at Coolabunia.<\/strong><\/p>\n
