Sixteen Nanango community organisations have received the lifesaving gift of new defibrillators, thanks to a $47,990 sponsorship from Heritage Nanango Community Branch.<\/p>\n

The lifesaving equipment was requested by the Nanango Local Ambulance Committee (LAC) and presented to the groups at a presentation night at Taras Hall in Nanango on May 13.<\/p>\n

Nanango Ambulance Acting Officer-in-Charge Brodie Savage explained how the Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) work and invited representatives from the community groups to practise on resuscitation mannikins so they would feel confident about using the devices in a real emergency.<\/p>\n

Fifteen organisations plus the Heritage Nanango Branch received a total of 17 AEDs (Nanango State School received two).<\/p>\n

About a dozen of the units were to replace previous Heritage-donated AEDs presented to groups back in 2015 (most AEDs have a useful lifespan of eight to 10 years).<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHeritage Bank Nanango Community Branch, together with our joint venture partner Heritage Nanango Community Funding (HNCF), first supported the supply of AEDs in the Nanango area back in 2015 and it\u2019s great to see this continue,\u201d Heritage Nanango Community Branch manager Lochlan Ezzy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven those AEDs are nearly 10 years old, organisations were finding it harder and harder to maintain them. These new models take advantage of any advances in technology and make it easier for future maintenance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we hope we don\u2019t have to use them, having more of these devices readily accessible throughout the community increases the potential to save someone\u2019s life.”<\/p>\n

HNCF director Jane Hodgkinson said the group was proud to partner with the Nanango LAC on the project.<\/p>\n

“It’s a great example of local people backing local needs,” Jane said.<\/p>\n
