A large component on its way to the Wambo Wind Farm construction project created traffic chaos on Friday morning when it became wedged under a bridge on the Warrego Highway.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred about 1:30am at the Mt Crosby Road overpass in the Ipswich suburb of Tivoli.<\/p>\n

At 3:00pm on Friday, the westbound lanes of the highway were still closed.<\/p>\n

Traffic in both directions on the overpass had also been stopped while Department of Transport and Main Roads crews conducted structural assessments of the bridge.<\/p>\n

There is no information about when either roadway will re-open.<\/p>\n

A Wambo Wind Farm spokesperson said a sub-contractor had been transporting the equipment.<\/p>\n

“There were no injuries reported,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“We are supporting the relevant authorities as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the event.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Safety is our highest priority, and we expect all contractors working on our projects to uphold the strictest safety and compliance standards.<\/p>\n

“As investigations are ongoing, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”<\/p>\n

Deliveries of turbine components to the Wambo project began in October last year, travelling from the Port of Brisbane via Dalby, Jimbour, Jandowae and Diamondy.<\/p>\n

The Wambo Wind Farm is being built in two stages: 42 turbines in Stage 1 with another 41 in Stage 2.<\/p>\n

It will eventually generate more than 500MW of power.<\/p>\n

UPDATE May 19: The wind tower component was successfully removed from under the overpass in the early hours of Saturday morning. DTMR then completed resurfacing works and the westbound lanes were reopened to traffic on Sunday night, however the Mount Crosby Road overpass remained closed on Monday with structural assessments still under way.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
