{"id":360435,"date":"2025-05-07T18:27:29","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T08:27:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=360435"},"modified":"2025-05-07T18:27:29","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T08:27:29","slug":"park-rangers-issue-fines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2025\/05\/07\/park-rangers-issue-fines\/","title":{"rendered":"Park Rangers Issue Fines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>May 7, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers have warned that heavy fines can be imposed for illegal behaviour in State Forests and National Parks.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson singled out increasing unlawful behaviour which had been observed in Wondai and Benarkin State Forests.<\/p>\n<p>A number of fines were issued over the Easter holidays.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These included:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$1209 for operating a vehicle with an unrestrained child<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$322 for failing to wear a helmet while riding a motorbike<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$322 for camping without a permit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$322 for driving\/riding an unregistered vehicle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>QPWS Senior Ranger Luke stressed that the same rules which applied in public and on public roads also applied in State Forests.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of particular concern was the number of adults and children riding unregistered motorbikes, not holding valid driver licences or failing to wear helmets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese rules exist for a reason. Those who choose to disregard these regulations are putting themselves and others at risk, damaging these delicate ecosystems, and spoiling the camping experience for responsible visitors,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cA State Forest is not a motocross track, and when people go off-road or ride dangerously, they put themselves at risk, destroy vegetation and cause erosion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou would not do it in the main street of Wondai, the local botanic gardens or your backyard, so don\u2019t do it in a State Forest or National Park.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also highlighted the importance of camping permits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPermits help to prevent overcrowding, protect wildlife and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt just $7.25 per person, a permit is a small price to pay to camp in some of Queensland\u2019s most spectacular locations.
