Former Cherbourg mayor Elvie Sandow has been appointed to the Queensland Local Government Grants Commission.<\/p>\n

The independent Commission provides advice on the distribution of Commonwealth Financial Assistance Grants to Queensland\u2019s 77 local councils.<\/p>\n

The appointment of Aunty Elvie was one of several announced by the State Government on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Former Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi will take on a lead role as the newly appointed chairperson for the Commission, while former Flinders Shire mayor Jane McNamara and former Cook Shire mayor Peter Scott will also serve as members.<\/p>\n

The new appointees will each serve a three-year-term.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They join existing Commission deputy chairperson Joshua Hannan and member Jan Pool.<\/p>\n
