A $4.9 million grant to Angel Flight Australia – promised if the Coalition wins the upcoming Federal Election – would deliver better access to healthcare in the bush, according to Nationals Leader David Littleproud.<\/p>\n

The Member for Maranoa said the funding recognised that distance should not be a barrier to accessing health services.<\/p>\n

Angel Flight Australia is a national charity which provides free, non-emergency flights and transfers so people living remotely can access essential healthcare.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201c(A total of) 7.2 million people live in regional communities across Australia, and every day they are dealing with the consequences of a critical shortage of GPs, specialists and health professionals,\u201d Mr Littleproud said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that Australians living in the bush have worse health outcomes than people living in our cities – shorter lives, higher levels of disease and injury and patchy access to health services. We need to make it easier, not harder, for regional Australians to get the healthcare they need, when they need it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Angel Flight has been operating for 21 years but receives no government funding, relying solely on donations and bequests.<\/p>\n

Mr Littleproud’s announcement said the new funding would enable Angel Flight to buy seven new aircraft.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
