Stores\u00a0 caught stocking and selling illegal tobacco and vapes face on-the-spot fines of up to $161,300, the State Government announced on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The on-the-spot fines have increased ten-fold for individuals and corporations caught selling illegal tobacco products.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Fines for the commercial supply of illicit tobacco and illegal nicotine products have increased to $32,260 for an individual, up from $3226. <\/span><\/p>\n

For corporations, the financial penalty is now $161,300, up from $16,130. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Also, fines can now be issued for the commercial possession and supply nicotine pouches, such as the brand Zyn.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The fines can be issued on the spot, however court-ordered penalties of up to two years\u2019 jail and\/or fines of up to $322,600 for individuals or $1.6 million for a corporation remain available.<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Health Minister Tim Nicholls said the State Government was clamping down on the trade of illegal tobacco and vaping products in Queensland.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cFor too long this black-market trade was allowed to flourish under Labor but we\u2019re determined to stamp it out,\u201d he said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWe promised a crackdown and with these tougher penalties hitting illegal operators in the hip pocket, we are helping stop illegal vapes falling into the hands of our kids.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Attorney-General Deb Frecklington said the fines were a necessary measure in response to businesses selling illicit tobacco and vaping goods. <\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThe nature of this conduct poses significant risks to public health and undermines our legislative and regulatory framework,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
