The Lions Club of Kingaroy has been serving the local community for 60 years, so it only seems fitting 60 people turned up for the club’s birthday celebration on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Guests enjoyed dinner and speeches in a private function at the Kingaroy RSL Club.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Club was formed on December 2, 1964, and formally chartered on March 27, 1965, co-sponsored by the Nanango and Wondai Lions Clubs.<\/p>\n

Special guests at the dinner were Beryl Hauritz and Margit Hubbers, daughters of Charter Members Nev Hauritz and Kurt Hubbers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nev’s name might sound familiar … he penned the words to Tex Morton’s 1970s hit song, “The Goondiwindi Grey”, but in Lions Club circles he’s best known for his work with the Kingaroy club.<\/p>\n

Other Charter members back in 1965 were Jim Adams, Don Krosch, Syd Adams, Joe Lee, Lloyd Athea, Lance Lovelett, Dudley Beale, Bob Mason, Ray Broomhall, Lou Mengel, Ron Gray, Sandy McGruer, John O’Connor, John Robson, Robbie Johnston, Don Stoodley, George Jones and George Thompson.<\/p>\n

Many past and present Lions Club members from Kingaroy and surrounding areas attended the dinner.<\/p>\n

The evening was compered by Kingaroy Lions Club vice-president Scott Roberts.<\/p>\n
