March 28, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wooroolin Warriors were crowned the 2024-25 South Burnett One-Day champions after a nail-biting Grand Final win over Nanango last Saturday.<\/p>\n

It marked the end of a testing season for local cricket clubs, which endured a fair share of ups and downs along the way as well as the tragic death in February of much-loved cricket stalwart Marissa Carney.<\/p>\n

Wondai Wolves finished on top of the Senior One Day ladder after points readjustments, but were knocked out in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Warriors actually finished third behind Nanango Scorpions, and had to defeat Wondai to earn Saturday’s Grand Final spot.<\/p>\n

Scorpions hosted Saturday’s match at the Alan Downie Sports Fields in Nanango.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wooroolin won the toss and elected to bat.<\/p>\n

They began well with opener John McDonald dominating the Nanango attack by hitting 66 runs off 55 balls, including five sixes.<\/p>\n

His fellow opener, James Searle scored more slowly but still made what turned out to be a respectable 16 runs.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, no one else made it into double figures.<\/p>\n

Jayden Prendergast finished with the best bowling figures for Nanango, taking 4\/32 off his eight overs.<\/p>\n

After McDonald was finally caught out off a Thomas Town ball, the last four Warriors’ wickets fell for just 17 runs.<\/p>\n

Wooroolin were all out for 124 in the 28th over, and would not have been feeling confident at the break.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But Scorpions’ got off to a bad start when opener Jay Steinhardt was out for a duck, bowled by John-Paul Schultz.<\/p>\n

A few balls later, Nicholas Scherger suffered the same fate, and Nanango were\u00a0 2\/2.<\/p>\n

Schultz proved deadly, taking 4\/19 off his 5.1 overs – including the three early order wickets – plus a catch and a runout.<\/p>\n

Thomas Town steadied the ship coming in at number four and worked hard to finish 65 not out off 65 balls.<\/p>\n

Sadly for Nanango fans, Town ran out of partners as Noah Birch (2\/11 off three overs) and Patrick Figg (3\/22 off three) finished off the Scorpions’ batting line-up.<\/p>\n

Scorpions were all out for 117 in the 26th over, falling painfully short of the win.<\/p>\n
