The much-discussed Wooroolin Skate Park looks set to become a reality … as a “grassroots” Olympics Games project.<\/p>\n

In 2021, local schoolchildren wrote a letter to their local MP, Deb Frecklington, requesting a park be built; they even started a petition.<\/p>\n

During its 2022-23 Budget discussions, the South Burnett Regional Council weighed up allocating $50,000 towards the project but nothing occurred at that time.<\/p>\n

Then in the lead-up to the last State Election, Mrs Frecklington promised funding would be made available should the LNP win power.<\/p>\n

That commitment has now been honoured, in Olympic fashion.<\/p>\n

Premier David Crisafulli unveiled Queensland’s 2032 Delivery Plan for the Olympics on Tuesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among the announcements was $250 million Games On! funding to deliver upgrades to grassroots clubs across the State.<\/p>\n

And among the first 100 community “clubs” listed to benefit was “Wooroolin skate park (new)”.<\/p>\n

No other South Burnett sporting clubs made the list, although the State Government says this is just the start of the program which will expand in the lead up to 2032.<\/p>\n

Premier David Crisafulli said Games On! was an investment in Queensland\u2019s future, not only to 2032, but beyond.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the lead-up to 2032, we\u2019ll invest in local sporting clubs so they can continue being the beating heart of Queensland communities,\u201d Premier Crisafulli said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur next generation of Olympians and Paralympians rely on grassroots clubs to hone their talents, and with Games On! they have every chance of reaching their potential.”<\/p>\n
