Well-known Kingaroy paper tole expert Rosemarie Matthews-Frederick has taken over the main space at Kingaroy Art Gallery this month to highlight her creations.<\/p>\n

Paper tole is a delicate craft which takes many hours to create 3D images.<\/p>\n

Rosemarie told the crowd on opening night last Friday that said she had been doing the craft since 1990 when she took it up after a ski-ing accident.<\/p>\n

Soon afterwards, she began teaching paper tole … which she has been doing in the South Burnett for the past 18 years.<\/p>\n

Works by several of Rosemarie’s students are also on display in Kingaroy’s main gallery.<\/p>\n

The March exhibition also includes a number of works from the gallery’s collection by the late David Bryce.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The display of some of his best-known works was to launch next year’s David Bryce Rural Art Award, a major art competition held every two years at the Kingaroy Gallery.<\/p>\n

Bryce was one of Kingaroy\u2019s best-known and best-loved artists who died in 2000.<\/p>\n

The award, which aims to capture the essence of contemporary rural life, was born out of a retrospective of his work in 2016.<\/p>\n

Cr Danita Potter, who officially opened the exhibitions, said Bryce was an amazing person.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As well as being an artist who inspired so many people, he was also a conservationist who loved the land.<\/p>\n

“He had a passion for Indigenous people, he had a passion for the community. He was an inspiration to everyone who met him,” Cr Potter said.<\/p>\n
