The Toowoomba Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has moved to “Stand Up” status ahead of TC Alfred crossing the coastline.<\/p>\n

Mayor Geoff McDonald urged residents to prepare for the impacts of severe weather.<\/p>\n

Mayor McDonald said the TRC was closely monitoring the situation and the Toowoomba LDMG met again on Friday to continue preparations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not expected to experience the same severe impacts from TC Alfred as Brisbane and coastal areas, however, the forecast for our region predicts heavy rain and strong winds,\u201d Mayor McDonald said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cResidents should take precautions such as driving to conditions on our roads, preparing your home for storm-type impacts and having an emergency plan if you live in a location across our region which floods or becomes isolated from flooding should that potentially occur.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil\u2019s community facilities will remain closed until further notice with a decision on re-openings likely to be in-step with the Queensland State Government\u2019s decision regarding schools for early next week. Our Customer Service Call Centre will remain available across the weekend on 131-872 for any urgent matters.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are asking residents to steer clear of our parks in coming days due to the risk of flying debris and falling tree limbs.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil teams are on standby to deal with this weather event, however, their personal safety is always our priority.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to reiterate that the safest place for almost all residents of the Toowoomba Region across the weekend will be in their own homes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cResidents should check on friends and family who may live in flood-prone areas, look out for neighbours and the more vulnerable members of our community as well as securing their pets and animals and keeping them safe during this event.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
