BlazeAid – the volunteer group which has been helping South Burnett farmers repair fences in the wake of this year’s floods – has received a boost in the form of food and fuel cards to the value of $3300.<\/p>\n

The cards, donated by Coles and Caltex, were presented to co-ordinators Paul and Alison Mortenson by Gympie Regional Council Deputy Mayor Trevor Perrett in Goomeri last Thursday.<\/p>\n

“This donation represents approximately two months\u2019 worth of fuel that BlazeAid has already spent in the local area,” Mr Mortenson said.<\/p>\n

“BlazeAid also received a donation of $5000 in memory of the late Thelma Alder.<\/p>\n

“A number of other donations have been given to BlazeAid to cover their substantial operating costs.<\/p>\n

“Every one big or small is very much appreciated, as it allows us to continue to help our Aussie farmers. Thank you to all concerned.”<\/p>\n

Mr Mortenson said 132kms of fences have now been cleaned and 118km repaired or replaced; 23 farms are still being worked on.<\/p>\n

“We expect that the final day on the farms will be Monday, June 24, after which the camp will be packed up and closed,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Volunteers will return to their homes to resume their normal lives knowing that they have helped many farmers.”<\/p>\n
