The Kingaroy Croquet Club has been improving its playing court thanks to a $1000 grant from Stanwell.<\/p>\n

Club secretary Judy Carroll said the club, which uses a former bowling green at the Kingaroy Bowls Club in Youngman Street, had top-dressed the playing surface and purchased irrigation equipment.<\/p>\n

The club took over management of the court at the beginning of last year, although they had been using it for many years before this.<\/p>\n

Since then, they have been working to improve the playing surface.<\/p>\n

The club has also erected a new sign at the entrance of the bowls club to alert people to where the club meets.<\/p>\n

Judy said the Kingaroy Croquet Club\u00a0would like to encourage young people to come along and try the game.<\/p>\n

“It’s not just an old people’s game,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It’s not physically demanding but you do a lot of walking and it’s good exercise.”<\/p>\n

And there’s a lot of thinking involved, too …<\/p>\n

“It’s like a cross between snooker and chess because of the strategies that you have to use,” she said.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Croquet Club plays every Tuesday morning and on Friday afternoons. During winter, it meets from 9:00am-noon on Tuesdays and 2:30pm-5:00pm on Fridays; during summer, these times change to 8:30am-11:30am on Tuesdays and 3:00pm-5:30pm on Fridays.<\/p>\n
