{"id":357765,"date":"2025-02-25T14:27:02","date_gmt":"2025-02-25T04:27:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=357765"},"modified":"2025-04-23T10:36:58","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T00:36:58","slug":"crime-group-plans-pool-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2025\/02\/25\/crime-group-plans-pool-party\/","title":{"rendered":"Crime Group Plans Pool Party"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_357766\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-357766\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/20250222wondai1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-357766 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/20250222wondai1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/20250222wondai1.jpg 740w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/20250222wondai1-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/20250222wondai1-269x167.jpg 269w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/20250222wondai1-285x177.jpg 285w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/20250222wondai1-340x211.jpg 340w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/20250222wondai1-263x163.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-357766\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The six people who volunteered to help organised the pool party &#8230; from left, Brenda Brown, Trish Jenkins, Cr Ros Heit, Lisa Cross, Cill Lorne and Mayor Kathy Duff<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>February 25, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A pool party to attract children &#8211; and their parents &#8211; will be the first initiative of a new community group set up to raise awareness of juvenile crime in the Wondai area.<\/p>\n<p>A second meeting of residents, organised via the Facebook group \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/868526255211263\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wondai Crime Chats<\/a><\/strong>\u201d, was held at the Wondai Diggers Club on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The turnout was much smaller than the first meeting of the group on January 18.<\/p>\n<p>Organiser Cill Lorne said this was probably due to the fact there had not been as many incidents in the town recently.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mayor Kathy Duff, Cr Heath Sander and Cr Ros Heit were in attendance as well as about a dozen other people.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mayor Duff said she had investigated the concept of a Byte Nite &#8211; similar to what is held in Murgon &#8211; but she did not think it would work in Wondai.<\/p>\n<p>Another suggestion was a possible Blue Light Disco, either at the Lions Pavilion or the Diggers Club.<\/p>\n<p>However, Mayor Duff said the local children should be surveyed to see what they actually wanted.<\/p>\n<p>A small sub-committee volunteered to organise a Pool Party with possible in-kind assistance from South Burnett CTC.<\/p>\n<p>This would provide an opportunity for the children and their parents to be surveyed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cr Heit suggested the name of the Facebook group be changed to something positive, such as &#8220;Keeping Wondai Safe&#8221;, to change the emphasis from &#8220;crime&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She also suggested more information be provided to residents about the importance of locking doors as well as installing security screens and sensor lights.<\/p>\n<p>Later that afternoon, the Facebook group admins set up an online poll, with 77 per cent of respondents (102 votes) rejecting any name change.<\/p>\n<p>No date has been set for the pool party.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related article: <a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2025\/01\/21\/residents-share-hopes-and-fears\/\">Residents Share Hopes And Fears<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UPDATE April 5: Plans to hold a pool party have been shelved due to lack of external support.
