The State Government announced today that a public holiday has been declared for the Brisbane Local Government Area for Friday, November 14.<\/p>\n

This is the day before the G20 Leaders\u2019 Summit which will take place in Brisbane on the weekend of November 15-16 under extremely tight security.<\/p>\n

Premier Campbell Newman said the G20 Summit would be a great opportunity to showcase Brisbane and Queensland to the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will also be one of the biggest events Brisbane has seen, with thousands of additional people here,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, to ease the impact on the city and help minimise any potential disruptions we have decided to announce a one-off public holiday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt only applies to the Brisbane Local Government Area but the benefits will be enjoyed by people across the south-east.
\n<\/strong>
\n\u201cSimilar to the Brisbane Ekka public holiday, entitlement is not based on a person\u2019s place of residence but their place of work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police Minister Jack Dempsey said there were important security considerations and a public holiday would make these easier to implement.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrisbane city will be bustling while the summit is on, which may make it a little harder to move around as freely as people normally would,\u201d Mr Dempsey said. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is very likely there will be road closures in and around the CBD and South Bank.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe public holiday on the Friday will help reduce traffic when final preparations are taking place for the beginning of the summit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Up to 25 world leaders, including US President Barack Obama, 4000 delegates and 3000 domestic and international media will be attending the summit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
