Haven House Kingaroy – a housing project which aims to address the housing crisis for at-risk youth in the South Burnett – was officially opened on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The four-bedroom duplex is a joint project by the Property Industry Foundation (PIF) and South Burnett CTC.<\/p>\n

Construction began on a vacant block in Haly Street in May last year.<\/p>\n

PIF CEO Kate Mills said the property would bring “tangible, positive change to young people in Kingaroy who would otherwise be facing serious and daunting prospects”.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur hope is Haven House Kingaroy will help to support young people as they search for permanent and safe housing solutions and explore pathways to pursuing security, education, employment and most importantly, their mental health and wellbeing,\u201d Ms Mills said.<\/p>\n

South Burnett CTC CEO Jason Erbacher said the duplex would make a significant difference in the lives of many people.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe opening of Haven House Kingaroy means that we now have over 200 per cent more capacity to provide safe transitional housing in Kingaroy,” Mr Erbacher said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“In tandem with CTC\u2019s Malcolm\u2019s Youth Hostel, we can now provide more life-changing assistance to young people who need it most.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe partnership between ourselves and the Property Industry Foundation has brought about a rarely seen chance for those of us who are passionate about uplifting homeless and at-risk youth to have real impact on the issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would again like to sincerely thank our construction partner at Homezone Projects and the many people who have taken part in fundraising initiatives for this development.\u201d<\/p>\n

Haven House Kingaroy will be operated by South Burnett CTC\u2019s Specialist Homelessness Service and will provide a safe haven for an estimated eight at-risk young people every year.<\/p>\n

This service also provides one-on-one support and case management to young people, with the goal of empowering them to learn important life skills.<\/p>\n
