Toowoomba region businesses looking to crack lucrative Asian markets have been urged to join Toowoomba Regional Council on a business tour to Korea and Taiwan in September.<\/p>\n

The Toowoomba party will join a South East Queensland delegation visit to the Asia Pacific Cities’ Summit in Kaohsiung, Taiwan from September 9-11.<\/p>\n

Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio, who will lead the tour, said it offered valuable exposure and networking opportunities for business people eager to gain a foothold in new export markets.<\/p>\n

Cr Antonio said the visit would offer access to more than 1000 delegates from 100 global cities.<\/p>\n

He said the summit’s Business Matching Program aimed to link investors with potential business partners.<\/p>\n

“This is an ideal opportunity for business people across all sectors to join a fully supported tour,” Cr Antonio said.<\/p>\n

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is equally as enthusiastic and is encouraging business people who trade internationally, or aspire to break into international markets, to participate in the Asia Pacific Cities’ Summit.<\/p>\n

“Research has shown that more than $20 million in trade agreements and partnerships was generated between local and Asia-based businesses from the 2011 summit,” Cr Quirk said.<\/p>\n

“With a concerted South East Queensland focus the 2013 summit has the potential to eclipse the great results of the previous summit.<\/p>\n

“The summit’s comprehensive Business Matching Program offers participating businesses an incredible opportunity to meet directly with representatives from business and government across Asia.<\/p>\n

“I urge people to register as soon as possible to get the greatest benefit from participating in the Business Matching Program.”<\/p>\n

Cr Antonio said the trip would be a good way for business people to take the first step in expanding business horizons by dealing directly with potential customers, suppliers or agents.<\/p>\n

“The visit offers people a chance to meet potential partners and see how other firms operate across international boundaries,” Cr Antonio said.<\/p>\n

“I strongly encourage business people to consider joining the trip as an investment in their future. Any flow-on effects also would contribute to the region’s ongoing prosperity.”<\/p>\n

The Toowoomba party will start its tour with a visit to the third Paju Business Expo on September 7-8. Interested business people are welcome to join Council’s stand.<\/p>\n

Paju, in the Republic of Korea, is one of Toowoomba’s Sister Cities.<\/p>\n
