A Bill introduced into State Parliament on Thursday will solve the payroll tax quandary faced by many GPs in Queensland.<\/p>\n

In 2022, a tribunal decision in NSW determined that GPs contracted to medical centres were deemed to be receiving \u201ctaxable wages\u201d for the purposes of levying payroll tax.<\/p>\n

The Queensland Revenue Office then stated the position was the same in Queensland.<\/p>\n

At the time, Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said the ruling had “reinterpreted” the law and feared it could mean the end of bulk-billing by GPs in Queensland.<\/p>\n

The Revenue Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 introduced into State Parliament this week means GPs will no longer to be subject to payroll tax or the mental health levy.<\/p>\n

It also contains a bonus for first home buyers in Queensland.<\/p>\n

The Bill abolishes stamp duty on new builds and land for eligible first-home buyers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A government spokesperson said a first home buyer buying a new house and land package in Toowoomba at the median price could save $24,730; in Brisbane north, this would equate to a saving of almost $37,000; while in Moreton Bay south, it would save $24,325.<\/p>\n
