The Kingaroy Sportfishing Club is keen to share the joy of wetting a line with the younger generation to ensure a bright future for the sport.<\/p>\n

The group recently organised an Angler Education Day in conjunction with Kingaroy Scouts\u00a0 at Gordonbrook Dam.<\/p>\n

Seventeen scouts, under the careful watch of cub leaders Jackie “Kookaburra” Jones and Catherine “Koala” Bochmann,\u00a0 were taught some of the basics of rod-and-reel fishing by club members.<\/p>\n

Club vice-president Shaun Manthey said he wanted to especially thank Stanwell, which supported the event through the donation of rods for all the young anglers to use.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The last time the Kingaroy Sportfishing Club and the scouts joined forces for an education day, the haul wasn’t spectacular … it included a toy car!<\/p>\n

But this time, the youngsters did manage to haul in some fish.<\/p>\n

At the end of a relaxing day at the dam, the scouts returned to their Kingaroy Den to enjoy their Christmas break-up.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Sportfishing Club’s next angler information event – this time targeting tilapia – will be held at Boondooma Dam from January 17-19.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The trip is being organised by Junior Club Captain Ben Horne and Freshwater Fishing and Stocking Association of Queensland president Charlie Ladd will also be attending.<\/p>\n
