Cr Jane Erkens will take over as Deputy Mayor in early December<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Cr Jane Erkens will slot into the role of Deputy Mayor of the South Burnett Regional Council on December 4, in line with the eight-month rotational model decided at the start of the current Council term.<\/p>\n

The announcement of the change was made at Wednesday’s General Council meeting, and motions to vacate the role and appoint Cr Erkens were passed unanimously.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kathy Duff and councillors thanked Cr Danita Potter for her work as Deputy Mayor since April 4.<\/p>\n

Mayor Duff said the rotation program was part of building a team which supported each other and worked together, avoiding problems which had developed in previous Councils.<\/p>\n

The rotational order discussed in April was: Cr Danita Potter, Cr Jane Erkens, Cr Ros Heit, Cr Deb Dennien, Cr Linda Little and Cr Heath Sander.<\/p>\n

Council has voted to write to the Blue Light Association in Brisbane in regards to its use of the skating rink building in George Street, Nanango.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At present the building, which stands on Council land, is not being used.<\/p>\n

The meeting was told the facility had been developed through grants and community fundraising.<\/p>\n

Councillors voted unanimously to ask the Association to either put the Blue Light Building back in use for the community or return it to the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kathy Duff said she was proud of the way her Council team had talked to the 7:30 Report and at the Nuclear Inquiry hearing in Nanango.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The feedback that I got was that we presented a balanced view,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Our basic message was ‘let’s look at nuclear’ as we are not happy with the rollout of renewables.<\/p>\n

“It was also interesting to attend the recent nuclear information night.<\/p>\n

“I have provided feedback to the presenters that these forums need to be opened up to the whole community because, as councillors, we need to hear from everybody so that we can accurately gauge the community’s sentiment as the debate continues.”<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mayor Duff said the five-week air-scouring program of Kingaroy’s water main system had been completed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She said it had been very successful with large amounts of iron, manganese and bio-film removed from more than 100km of water mains.<\/p>\n

Staff had recommended another program should be included in next year’s Budget.<\/p>\n
