Premier David Crisafulli believes the Borumba Dam pumped hydro project will most likely go ahead.<\/p>\n

The Premier was speaking after a meeting at the weekend where he confirmed the controversial Pioneer-Burdekin Pumped Hydro Project near Mackay would be scrapped.<\/p>\n

He told ABC News his government had a “laser-like focus” on finding an affordable way to continue with the Borumba Dam plan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We do believe it can be done in a respectful way to the environment and if we can make sure that it’s affordable it can also be a project that (benefits) Queenslanders,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The department is also working on other plans for smaller more manageable hydro, and when that is concluded we’ll be open and honest and transparent with Queenslanders and look to find ways that projects can occur without communities being treated like doormats.”<\/p>\n

One Nation candidate Katy McCallum, who led the campaign against the Borumba Dam Project, received 22.55 per cent of first preference votes when she stood for the seat of Gympie at the recent State Election.<\/strong><\/p>\n

ALP candidate Lachlan Anderson (23.78%) and sitting LNP MP Tony Perrett (45.75%)\u00a0 both outpolled the Kilkivan businesswoman.<\/p>\n
