An astounding 47.5 million containers – that’s the equivalent of $4.75 million in refunds! – has passed through the Kingaroy Containers For Change refund point since it opened.<\/p>\n

The workers at the depot in Kingaroy Street celebrated the fifth birthday of the Cherbourg Council venture on Tuesday with a free sausage sizzle for customers.<\/p>\n

Manager Christine Beresford said she was amazed when she was told that more than 47.5 million cans and bottles had passed through the Kingaroy refund point – and its related depots in Nanango, Blackbutt and Yarraman – since October 1, 2019.<\/p>\n

That’s 47.5 million items that haven’t ended up in landfill …<\/p>\n

As part of their birthday celebrations, the Kingaroy depot also ran a free guessing competition (how many cans are in the wire frame?) which ran from September 23 to October 1.<\/p>\n

Everyone who dropped off their 10c bottles and cans at the refund point were invited to make a guess for the chance to win 2000 containers (ie. $200).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The winner was\u00a0 Shanann Tewes who guessed the nearest number, 711 cans … the actual number was 709.<\/p>\n

Christine said the growth of the Containers For Change scheme within the South Burnett region and beyond had been unbelievable.<\/p>\n

“We look forward to future growth for the business and getting even more money back into the communities we serve and it couldn’t all be possible without the deadly staff. Their support, hard work and dedication is what keeps us going strong,” she said.<\/p>\n
