Concrete pours have begun for the foundations of the new $1.3 billion Toowoomba Hospital.<\/p>\n

Darling Downs Health Board chair Dr Dennis Campbell said the milestone followed many years of planning.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeeing the piling rig on site laying the first foundations for what will be a world-class facility is really very special,\u201d Dr Campbell said this week.<\/p>\n

In total, 450 holes will be dug and filled with concrete to form the foundation piles, each up to 1.2 metres wide and 23 metres deep.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Darling Downs Health Service chief executive Annette Scott PSM said the existing facility in Pechey Street would be retained when the new hospital opens.<\/p>\n

\u201cAcute services, which includes the Emergency Department, will transfer to the new hospital on completion,” she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Pechey Street facility will remain operational for select services.”<\/p>\n

The new complex has been scheduled for completion in the second half of 2027.<\/p>\n
