The inaugural Maidenwell Music Mix was true to its name at the weekend, offering a “mix” of country, pop and soft rock music to keep the crowd entertained.<\/p>\n

Maidenwell Music Mix committee president Gavin Jones said other festivals concentrated on just one type of music, so the organisers of this latest event had tried to offer something a bit different.<\/p>\n

And it appears to have worked …<\/p>\n

“It was fantastic, absolutely brilliant,” Gavin said on Monday.<\/p>\n

“It wasn’t a large crowd but it was certainly good enough to make a few dollars.”<\/p>\n

The festival kicked off on Friday with local band RYZA christening the new, permanent stage which has been erected behind the Maidenwell Hotel.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Rob and Clare (Fitz-Herbert) were the perfect people to launch the whole show,” Gavin said.<\/p>\n

Other local artists included Amber Goldsmith, Paul Ricketts, Dean Perrett, Natalie Fenton and Mr Q (who also handled the sound).<\/p>\n

The star attraction, though, was multiple Golden Guitar-winning fiddle player (and comedian) Pixie Jenkins who not only wowed the crowd with his violin but also kept them amused with non-stop chatter between acts.<\/p>\n

Profits from the weekend will support South Burnett projects, including mental health initiatives.<\/p>\n

The committee was particularly grateful for a donation of $10,000 from Kingaroy residents Barry and Leanne Krosch towards the event.<\/p>\n

Next year’s dates have already been organised – September 19-21 – and bookings made.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gavin said he was also hoping to put the new stage to good use in the meantime – “there’s nothing like it in the South Burnett” – to host regular music afternoons when he resumes management of the Maidenwell Hotel later next month.<\/p>\n
