The maintenance shutdown at Tarong Power Station is expected to inject $10 million into the local economy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A $53 million overhaul of Unit 2 at Tarong Power Station has begun, boosting the local workforce by about 500 specialised contractor jobs over the next three months.<\/p>\n

A Stanwell spokesperson said the planned maintenance would inject about $10 million into the South Burnett economy.<\/p>\n

“Around 500 extra workers are needed for the overhaul of Unit 2 which will require more than 190,000 direct hours of work from specialised trades, services and maintenance staff along with 70,000 indirect hours for support services such as trades assistants, cleaners, engineers and supervisors,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“It will also deliver significant flow-on economic activity to the South Burnett region … supporting local businesses supplying materials and equipment, accommodation, transport and hospitality services.”<\/p>\n

Stanwell general manager (Southern Generation) Mick Joy said the maintenance program ensured Stanwell’s assets were kept in good condition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAs Queensland continues to advance its transformation to renewables, our existing assets and workforce have an important role to play in providing secure, reliable and affordable energy. That\u2019s why we are continuing to invest in Tarong Power Station, our people and local communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The shutdown is expected to continue until the end of November.<\/p>\n
