The recent restructure of the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service appears to have left the Goomeri Rural Fire Brigade without a home.<\/p>\n

The volunteer rural firies formerly shared premises with the Goomeri State Emergency Service volunteers in a Gympie Regional Council-owned building in Moore Street.<\/p>\n

However, the restructuring has meant the Goomeri SES is now part of the Queensland Police Service, not the renamed Queensland Fire Department.<\/p>\n

The Goomeri Fire Brigade, staffed by auxiliary firefighters, operates out of a small building next door to the SES Building, but does not have the room to store the Rural Fire Brigade truck or equipment.<\/p>\n

southburnett.com.au<\/strong> understands that at the moment, Goomeri’s rural firefighters are parking their vehicle behind the SES building, and storing some of their equipment in private homes.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington submitted a Question on Notice this week to Fire and Disaster Recovery Minister Nikki Boyd asking about the situation:<\/p>\n

“Will the Minister clarify what plans are in place to provide a permanent shed for the (Goomeri Rural Fire) Brigade, given they have no dedicated facility for their truck, equipment or for training.” <\/em><\/p>\n

Auxiliary firefighters based in Goomeri have also been pressing for some time for an upgrade to their facility, which is currently only large enough to house one vehicle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
