A new pedestrian crossing and footpath will be built outside Goomeri P-10 school at a cost of $296,000.<\/p>\n

The raised crossing – known as a “wombat” crossing – is designed to improve safety for students.<\/p>\n

It will be funded partly by the State Government’s School Transport Infrastructure Program (STIP) and Gympie Regional Council.<\/p>\n

The project is one of 46 STIP projects across Queensland, worth a total of $14.1 million, announced on Wednesday by the State Government.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said persistence had paid off.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She said the school and its P&C committee had been trying to secure support for the project for some time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe P&C wrote to me last year seeking support to install an improved pedestrian crossing at the Munro Street school entrance and I met with parents at the school to discuss this need,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile there is a crossing on McTaggart Street, the Munro Street entrance is busier and desperately needed improvement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very pleased to see that the State Government has acknowledged the need at Goomeri State School.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will improve safety dramatically for the students and families at Goomeri P-10 along with creating more certainty and awareness for road users at this location.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to congratulate principal Leon Doorackers, his team and the Goomeri SS P&C for their ongoing efforts to achieve this great result.”<\/p>\n
