Current AgForce deputy chair Shane McCarthy has been named President-elect of the Queensland-based rural lobby group.<\/p>\n

Mr McCarthy will step into the role at AgForce\u2019s AGM in Goondiwindi on November 12.<\/p>\n

He replaces Durong grazier Georgie Somerset who has led AgForce for the past six years.<\/p>\n

AgForce CEO Mike Guerin acknowledged Mrs Somerset\u2019s dedication to the role.<\/p>\n

\u201cGeorgie\u2019s leadership has been significant and consequential over her six-year term as General President,\u201d Mr Guerin said.<\/p>\n

Mr McCarthy said he was “humbled and excited” by the opportunity to lead the organisation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank Georgie for her tireless dedication over the last six years as well as the other out-going Board members, Commodity Board members and Regional Council members in defending and promoting agriculture in Queensland,\u201d Mr McCarthy said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cGeorgie has built strong momentum around significant issues for industry, and I look forward to acknowledging those fully at the AGM and ensuring the organisation maximises that momentum for ensuring policy settings and allow industry and community to thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mrs Somerset congratulated Mr McCarthy on being elected General President.<\/p>\n

\u201cRepresenting AgForce members is both a privilege and a responsibility – one where the focus is always on making it easier for our members to grow food and fibre,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
