Irrigation users should be aware amendments to State water regulations came into effect on July 22.<\/p>\n

The changes will be implemented over the next six months and aim\u00a0 to improve non-urban water measurement across Queensland.<\/p>\n

According to the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water (DRDMW),\u00a0many of the changes do not require immediate action by water users and will be implemented gradually.<\/p>\n

DRDMW spokesperson Ian Gordon said the changes would help manage the State\u2019s water resources more fairly and sustainably by ensuring measurement devices are fit for purpose and meet Queensland\u2019s measurement standards.<\/p>\n

\u201cA key change in place from July 22 reduces the time allowed for repairing faulty measurement devices to 30 business days or about six weeks,\u201d Mr Gordon said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis will encourage water users to repair measurement devices quickly and improve the accuracy of water measurement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWater users will still need to report a suspected fault in their device within three days and once the device is fixed, it must be certified by a qualified person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regulation changes also define who is considered a qualified person and will ensure that only someone with the required skills and qualifications is able to certify whether a measurement device meets the required standards.<\/p>\n
